Summersong excerpt

A small excerpt from Summersong...

Sitting heavily on the sand, she pulled her knees close and hugged them to her body. Her face fell to her chest, and she took in long, shuddering breaths. Her hands shook and her legs trembled and her stomach quivered and for a second she wondered if she’d finally be sick, but she kept breathing deeply and the terror began to subside. When she raised her head, she saw that the man in the boat was still watching her.

You saved me. How can I ever thank you?

He’d put the megaphone down, and she could see his face. Handsome, with sun-kissed skin and wind-tousled brown curls, he wore a faded black Bruce Springsteen concert tee.

A knight in shining rocker regalia. Why am I not surprised?

Cupping his hands near his mouth, he called, “Are you all right? Do you need any help?”

As she shook her head, she waved. “No, thanks. I’m fine. I think you’ve already helped,” she said, thankful that her voice sounded steady, at least to her own ears. “Thanks for showing up when you did. I appreciate it more than you know.”

“Just a service we sailors provide,” he called. He smiled, showing rows of even, white teeth. “Are you sure you don’t need any help? An escort home, maybe?”

His voice sounded like hot fudge—smooth and silky without being too sweet. Lucy felt her nipples tighten as she smiled back at him.Skip was suddenly pushed to the recesses of her mind. The distant recesses.

“No, thanks. I live just up the hill, over there.” She pointed toward the cabin as she stood. “But thanks—for everything.”

Summersong sounds like a really good story. I like spending time at our family's cabin near Lake Powell. So relaxed and quiet. Looking forward to reading this. Miami Honey was great. And the Christmas Candy book was yummy, too!
